The appeal was submitted by initiative of the Federation of human rights organizations of Azerbaijan.
Yunus noted that the appeal states the need to appoint a special rapporteur on political prisoners in the South Caucasus.
She said the problem is urgent for the entire South Caucasus, when following elections from 138 up 192 political prisoners appeared in Armenia and at least 26 in Georgia.
"In this connection, the authors of the appeal consider that the appointment of a special rapporteur on political prisoners in the South Caucasus will help settle the problem", noted the human rights activist.
Thus, the appeal was signed from Azerbaijan by Leyla Yunus (Institute for Peace and Democracy) and Eldar Zeynalov (Human rights center of Azerbaijan).
from Armenia: Mikael Danielyan (Helsinki Association of Armenia) and Anait Bayandur (Armenian Institute for Peace, Democracy and Development).
from Georgia: Ucha Nanuashvili (human rights center of Georgia) and Emil Adelkhanov (Caucasus Center of Peace, Democracy and Development).
