04 June 2008 [11:08] - TODAY.AZ
The Liberal-Democratic Party of Azerbaijan disapproves of the recent amendments to the Electoral Code and the Law "On Freedom of Assembly", Day.Az reports with reference to the press service for the party.
The statement, released by the party, says that the citizen  and political party have a right for freedom of assembly in line with the constitution.

"The amendments and alterations to the law "On Freedom of Assembly", separate Azerbaijan from democracy. They will create problems between the citizens and authorities, cause damage on the activity of the opposition and the democratic image of President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.

The adoption of the amendments to the Electoral Code is also a step behind. The reduction of the term for collecting signatures, ban of election agitation on the state television reduces belief in the democratic elections", says the announcement.

The party calls on President Ilham Aliyev to annul the decision of Milli Medjlis. This step will really promote fair and democratic elections.
