The proposed amendments to the law "On freedom of assembly" are a serious step towards liberalization.
The due announcement was made by Ana Veten party chairman, deputy Fazail Aghamaly, speaking at Eks movqe TV program (Alternative position) at Day.Az radio.
He noted that formation of democratic traditions, process of establishment of civil society and creation of democratic institutes are currently under way in Azerbaijan.
Aghamaly voiced support for amendments, proposed to the law "On freedom of Assembly", but there are some points, on which he does not agree.
As an example, he listed proposal to lift a ban on conduction of a meeting or a picket by persons, who do not have citizenship of Azerbaijan.
He said the proposed amendments may have negative consequences for the state system of Azerbaijan.
"For example, the Iranian regime, which is not so friendly towards Azerbaijan, would send 200 of its people to our country and provide them with a great amount of funds. They would find their supporters in Baku and hold actions with a demand to establish the Islamic state in Azerbaijan. They may have this opportunity after due amendments are introduced to the law. I am against lifting ban on conduction of meetings or picquets in Azerbaijan", said Aghamaly.
