Appeal of Azadlyg newspaper's editor-in-chief submitted to Supreme Court of Azerbaijan

The due announcement was made by journalist's defender Elchin Sadikhov.

He said the appeal states the need to eliminate decisions of the local courts and to pay compensation to the journalist for violation of his rights.

Sadikhov noted that last time he met with Zahid on May 7 and the latter was feeling well.

It should be noted that on March 7 the Yasamal district court of Baku, presided by judge Sudaba Mamedov passed a verdict against editor-in-chief of Azadlyg opposition newspaper Ganimat Zahid and Baku resident Vusal Hasanov.

In line with the court decision, Ganimat Zahid was sentenced to four years of imprisonment, Vusal Hasanov to 1.5 years. The Baku Appellate Court upheld the decision of the first court instance.
