Andres Herkel: "Discussions between Azerbaijan and Venice Commission, related to the Electoral Code, were incomplete and not all issues are settled"

The due announcement was made by PACE co-rapporteur on Azerbaijan Andres Herkel, during the press conference by results of the visit to Azerbaijan.

He noted that the Code includes some amendments, which create their concern.

"One of such issues is a ban of agitation campaign on the State Television of Azerbaijan. This implies that if the working President nominates his candidate for the President of Azerbaijan, the state television will not highlight the election campaign of other candidates except for him.

During one of the meetings with Azerbaijani officials we were told that this amendment has been coordinated with the Venice Commission and during the other meeting we heard the contrary statement. This creates concern", said Herkel.
