Four officers of Azerbaijani peacekeeping detachment in Iraq, Major Huseyn Dashdamirov, Captains Nasimi Javadov, Alizamin Karimov and Senior Lieutenant Abdulla Abdullayev were awarded the “US Navy and Marines Corps Achievement” Medal.
The NATO and Multi-National Forces Commandment have rewarded Azerbaijani peacekeepers for their professionalism and responsibility, for many times.
5 Azerbaijani officers were awarded the said Medal, so far. Captain Nasimi Jafarov was awarded this Medal for the second time.
It should be mentioned that a military division, then a military squad was established within the Azerbaijan Armed Forces in 1997.
The squad has been operating within a military N unit in Baku. Great attention is being paid to choose its personnel.
The peacekeeping unit is intensively training on tactical preparation, fire preparation, sports, foreign language, contacts with local residents and other subjects. After six months training, the militaries are sent to peacekeeping mission.
Currently, 150 Azerbaijani peacekeepers serve in the composition of the Armed Forces in Iraq, 34 in Kosovo and 45 in Afghanistan.
