CEC to appeal to int'l organizations on 'elections' in Karabakh

13 April 2007 [13:38] - TODAY.AZ
"All elections in Azerbaijan are to be held basing on Election Code and Constitution. All the elections held in Nagorno Karabakh by Armenians are illegal, and Central Election Commission (CEC) will appeal to international organizations with regard to this," said Natig Mammadov, secretary of CEC.

He told the APA that there is no presidential institution in Nagorno Karabakh, which is the part of Azerbaijan. The separatist regime, which scheduled 'presidential elections' in Nagorno Karabakh for July 19, 2007, has no authority.

"No bodies in Nagorno Karabakh have authorities, and international organizations do not recognize them. They just want to legalize fact of occupation by such elections. But everybody understands that it is absurd to hold elections in the occupied territory," he underlined.

Mammadov said that the 'elections' aim at hampering the negotiations over the conflict.
