12 March 2007 [13:52] - TODAY.AZ
Azerbaijani Armed Forces is one of the powerful armies of the CIS states for combat readiness. I can prove it by facts, chief of the Armed Forces Inspection Department, major-general Mammad Beydullayev says.

Our Army is ready to fulfill any task. Azerbaijani Army's moral-psychological readiness, battle technique, military equipment allow it, he told the APA.

Commenting on captivity of Azerbaijani soldiers by Armenia Beydullayev said it is not true that these cases are intensive.

Such cases had happened before. Facts on captivity can happen in the state of war. The enemy’s serviceman can also be captured by us. It is normal, he said.

Speaking of the importance of reserve servicemen the general said there are very experienced officers and generals in Azerbaijan.

There are reserve servicemen among them. They can be of great use both in educational institutions and other spheres, the general said.

Commenting on the reports about appointing a civilian to the post of the Defense Minister Beydullayev said he does not consider it admissible at present.

Defense Minister of the country, in the state of war should be a serviceman, he said.

Taking a stance on calling the dismissed and retired personnel department chief of Defense Ministry to military service in the Armed Forces the general said that serving in a post for eight years is a long period.

If we are integrating into NATO we should agree to it. I think that officers should serve two, three or four years in a post, the general said.

Beydullayev also said that positive measures have been taken for conformation of Azerbaijani Armed Forces to NATO system.

Azerbaijani Army will completely conform to the NATO standards soon, the general said.
