Khojaly genocide commemorated in St. Petersburg

Azerbaijani Consulate General in St. Petersburg held a commemorative event in Beloselskikh-Belozerskikh palace.

City and province officials representing Great Patriotic War and Leningrad war veterans, scientists, education, art, cultural figures, different social organizations, leaders of German, Croatian, Tartar, Jewish, Uzbek and Ingush Diasporas, leaders of National Cultural Autonomy participated in the event.

Poems in Russian and Azerbaijani were recited and film on Khojaly genocide was demonstrated in the event.

After reading President Ilham Aliyev's appeal to the Azerbaijani people, Consul General Gudsi Osmanov made a speech. The diplomat said that the main aim of the event is to inform the world community of Khojaly genocide. The participants regarded the tragedy as the crime committed against the whole humanity.

The participants appealed to the UN, OSCE and the Council of Europe for legal assessment of the tragedy, APA reports.
