Lale Shovkat Hajiyeva: "Early to cooperate with Musavat"

10 November 2006 [16:43] - TODAY.AZ
"Age and sex are not important factors in politics. Nancy Pelosi has been elected the first woman speaker of the lower house of the US Congress. It means that the thought "politics is the arena of men and the youth" is not true."

"Experience plays great role in politics. Therefore old politicians were the strongest. For instance, Adenawer, Charle de Gol, Churchill and others," leader of the National Unity Movement, former secretary of state Lale Shovkat Hajiyeva stated.

She does not agree with the thought of her unsuccessful political career, APA reports.

"The greatest success for a politician is to win the people’s confidence. My people confide in me. This is my greatest success. My aim is to do something for Azerbaijan. Those who want to remove me from the political arena won’t achieve their aim. I am still in the political arena," she said. She said that political line in Azerbaijan should change.

"I want a young leader for Azerbaijan whom I will support. But I do not see such a leader," Lale Shovkat Hajiyeva noted.

"Some people expect more from us, but they have to understand in what conditions we function. The conditions are very limited," she said.

She noted that they function in "Azadliq" bloc because they don't agree with results of the parliamentary elections. She said she is not satisfied with their activity completely. "We'll be satisfied when we do something for the people," she added.

Lale Shovkat Hajiyeva said that "Azadliq" bloc will not participate in the presidential elections until the political condition in Azerbaijan changes, until the government fulfills the obligations of CE. The leader of the National Unity Movement sees no need for uniting of Musavat Party and "Azadliq" bloc at the moment.

Being a bloc we have been separated from Musavat recently because of the position on the parliamentary elections. I did not want Musavat to be separated from us. We had a very good unity but their decision separated us," Lale Shovkat Hajiyeva said.
