Valdas Adamkus: "European Union should mediate in settlement of Karabakh conflict"

"The Nagorno Karabakh problem should be solved peacefully. As the European Union member state, Lithuania thinks the EU should play its role as a mediator in the solution of the Nagorno Karabakh problem," Lithuanian President Valdas Adamkus told at briefing following the one-on-one meeting with President Ilham Aliyev.

President Ilham Aliyev said the talks with Armenia were fruitless, "Besides Nagorno Karabakh, seven more regions of Azerbaijan have been occupied by Armenia. This is a great humanitarian disaster. Azerbaijan wants peaceful solution of the conflict in the frames of international law norms," Mr.Aliyev said.

The Azerbaijani President said the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan is not the topic of discussions at the negotiating process, APA reports.
