Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov and deputy chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, foreign minister of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov discussed the creation of favorable conditions for the development of cooperation in energy, transport, and humanitarian spheres, said the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry.
The two foreign ministers met within the framework of their participation in the 71st Regular Session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
The sides exchanged views on prospects of bilateral cooperation at the meeting.
The ministers noted the importance of cooperation in Azerbaijan-Turkmenistan-Turkey format, which introduces a significant contribution to the development of relations.
The ministers also discussed the agendas of the forthcoming meeting of foreign and energy ministers in this format.
The last meeting of foreign ministers of Azerbaijan, Turkey and Turkmenistan was held in Antalya, Turkey in 2015.
At this third meeting of foreign ministers last year, the sides expressed satisfaction with the relations and development of cooperation among the countries, and also expressed hope for the development of specific projects implemented within the framework of cooperation between the countries.
The geographical position of the two neighboring countries linked with the route of the Great Silk Road since ancient times creates favorable conditions for the effective combining of efforts in the implementation of new projects on the formation of transcontinental communication corridors, which ensure optimally profitable land and sea cargo transportation routes and their integration into the international logistics infrastructure.
