Youth and state employees make ascent to Heydar peak

Employees of Azerbaijan State Security Service have made the ascent to the Heydar Zirvesi peak (Heydar peak) on the occasion of the 93rd birthday anniversary of national leader Heydar Aliyev.

Before climbing to the Heydar Zirvesi peak in height of 3,751 kilometers the state employees visited the Alley of Honors in Baku to pay tribute to national leader Heydar Aliyev and laid flowers on his grave.

The Heydar Zirvesi peak is situated on the Bashdag mountain of the Caucasus Mountains’ Gizil Gaya massif on the territory of Shahdag National Park.

The ascent began on the slopes of the Gizil Gaya massif and the climbers set up camp to get prepared for it.

Despite the unstable weather accompanied by snow and frost, the participants reached the peak on May 8 to honor Heydar Aliyev and set the Azerbaijani flag on top of the formidable peak.

Members of the Youth Education Center has also climbed to the Heydar Zirvesi peak to show youth respect to the great leader. The campaign was organized by Azerbaijani Air and Extreme Sports Federation.

The group headed by Orkhan Amirkhanov started the ascent from Azerbaijan’s highest settlement in Khinaliq and hoisted the tricolor flag of Azerbaijan on the top of the mountain.

May 10 marks the 93rd birthday anniversary of Azerbaijan’s national leader Heydar Aliyev.

Heydar Aliyev was born on May 10, 1923 in Nakhchivan city of Azerbaijan.

Heydar Aliyev, a talented politician and public figure who devoted his life to prosperity and well-being of his nation, holds a special place in the history of Azerbaijan.

Being a charismatic leader with impressive grasp of politics and a person with a remarkable memory and ability to articulate a vision for the future of the Azerbaijani nation, Heyder Aliyev was an intelligent man with eyes on future. He could make his country important in the international political arena, gaining the sympathy for his country in the West and East.

On October 3, 1993, as a result of the nationwide vote, Heydar Aliyev was elected president of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

At the election held on October 11, 1998, he was re-elected president of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Heydar Aliyev, giving his consent to be nominated as a candidate at the 15 October 2003 presidential elections, relinquished to run at the elections due to health problems.
