Azerbaijan stretches helping hand to Pakistan

The Azerbaijani government has offered assistance to Pakistan for earthquake relief, Azerbaijani ambassador in Pakistan Dashgin Shikarov told Trend on Wednesday.

During a meeting with officials of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Pakistan on Wednesday, Shikarov conveyed the proposal of the Azerbaijani Government to assist in disaster relief.

Ministry of Emergency Situations of Azerbaijan is ready to send into the country rescue workers, a special technique, as well as humanitarian aid, the diplomat said.

Currently the ambassador is waiting for a response from Pakistani side.

7.7-magnitude earthquake struck southwestern Pakistani province of Baluchistan on Tuesday.
According the U.S. Geological Survey, the magnitude of the earthquake was 7.7.

According to seismologists, the epicenter of the quake was located in the territory of Baluchistan province, 66 kilometers north-east of the city Avaran. The earthquake source lies at a depth of 20 kilometers. The earthquake was followed by four aftershocks, the magnitude of the most powerful of which was 5.9.

According to the latest data of Ministry of Emergency Situations of Pakistan, the number of victims of the earthquake constituted 60 people, more than 300 were injured, over 200 houses were destroyed.

There are no citizens of Azerbaijan among the victims and injured in the earthquake in Pakistan.
