'Azerbaijan is very sensitive to developing its relationship with Iran'

16 January 2013 [11:25] - TODAY.AZ
Azerbaijani ambassador in Tehran Javanshir Akhundov has given an interview to Iran`s Fars News Agency (http://www.farsnews.com/newstext.php?nn=13911024000619).

The ambassador highlighted a number of issues, including Azerbaijan`s economic development, official Baku`s policy to free its Armenia-occupied lands, peace negotiations aimed at finding a solution to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, as well as the country`s work to strengthen the protection of human rights.

Akhundov said the Gross Domestic Product and the non-oil sector production had been growing at a rapid pace in Azerbaijan, adding billions of dollars had been invested in the country`s economy.

“Azerbaijan uses all capabilities to restore its territorial integrity, and is also strengthening its military power,” he said.

On the Karabakh conflict, the ambassador said Armenia continued to disregard resolutions of international organizations demanding an unconditional withdrawal of its armed forces from Azerbaijan`s occupied lands.

Akhundov noted that despite heavy consequences of Armenia`s aggression against Azerbaijan, his country had been carrying out a number of important socio-economic projects.
The ambassador said Azerbaijan attached a particular emphasis to safeguarding international values and protecting human rights and freedoms.

“A vivid example of this is the fact that 35 thousand Armenians are living in Azerbaijan, with the government having ensured their security. On the contrary, all the Azerbaijani families residing in Armenia were displaced from their homes.”

Akhundov said Azerbaijan paid great attention to maintaining good and sincere friendship ties with its neighbors.

“Azerbaijan is very sensitive to developing its relationship with neighboring Iran, and is making serious efforts to improve multilateral ties,” said the ambassador.
