State of Illinois seek to develop ties with Azerbaijan

Michael J. Madigan, Speaker of the Illinois House of Representatives met with the Speaker of Azerbaijan Parliament (Milli Majlis) Ogtay Asadov.

Asadov noted that after regaining state independence Azerbaijan has established close friendly relations with all states, including the United States. Today, the United States and Azerbaijan have strategic partner relations. According to Asadov, the current visit of Mr. Madigan will promote further development of bilateral relations between the two states. Azerbaijani Speaker made a proposal to set up a parliamentary friendship group between the legislative body of the State of Illinois and the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Michael J. Madigan expressed delight of being in Azerbaijan and thanked for warm hospitality.

The guest praised quick development in Azerbaijan, underlining incredible progress of information technology in the country. He, in particular, stressed the government’s IT projects being realized here.

The two Speakers have comprehensive exchange of views on numerous issues, including organizing reciprocal visits, inter-parliamentary and legislative cooperation.
