Azerbaijan, Uruguay mull cooperation opportunities

 Azerbaijan`s ambassador to Argentina with concurrent accreditation to Uruguay Mammad Ahmadzade has met with President of the Chamber of Representatives of Uruguay parliament Jorge Orrico.

According to press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, they discussed prospects for development of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Uruguay, as well as bilateral economic, trade and investment opportunities.

Recalling the meeting held with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov in July, Jorge Orrico noted the visit contributed to expanding cooperation between the two countries in a variety of fields.

Mammad Ahmadzade thanked Mr. Orrico for his assistance in establishing the Azerbaijan -Uruguay Interparliamentary Friendship Group in the parliament.

Mr. Ahmadzade provided information on the establishment of the Azerbaijan- Uruguay Interparliamentary Friendship Group in the Milli Majlis. He expressed confidence that these friendship groups would give an impetus to the development of cooperation between the two countries.

They noted the importance of meetings of delegations of the Uruguayan Senate and the Chamber of Representatives with President Ilham Aliyev and other officials during their visit to Azerbaijan in October.

Jorge Orrico accepted Mammad Ahmadzade`s invitation to visit Azerbaijan. Ahmadzade also briefed the Uruguayan official on the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and Azerbaijan`s position on the settlement of the dispute.

Jorge Orrico said that Uruguay had always supported settlement of conflicts on the basis of the norms and principles of international law.
