Russian FM: 'Azerbaijan`s role and activeness in nternational aren recognized'

“Russia highly praised election of Azerbaijan as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council,” Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Gennady Gatilov said in his interview.

Gatilov specially noted Russia supported and voted for the membership of Azerbaijan. “Before the election to the Security Council, we held special consultations and discussion with our Azerbaijani friends. It became clear that we could find a common ground in all matters and have common perception over the problem that the Council has on the agenda. It seems that a quite constructive and useful relation was formed between our delegations in New York. I hope that this relation will continue in the future”, the Russian official said.

“No doubt, this event will have a positive effect on the image and authority of Azerbaijan. I would like to note that Azerbaijan`s election as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council means recognition of its role and activeness in the international arena. Of course, this high position significantly increases the ascendancy of Azerbaijan in the world,” Gennady Gatilov added.
