Azerbaijan is going to present a report on implementation of the Convention on Rights of the Child in the 59th session of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child. The report is scheduled to be discussed on January 17-18.

The Committee`s 18 experts supervise two optional protocols to the Convention on the Rights of the Child. The protocols feature issues on involvement of children in armed conflict, sale of the children, child prostitution and child pornography. The session will last till February 3.

Azerbaijan joined the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1992 and two optional protocols in 2002, and adopted a law on children`s rights in 1999. The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child is a human rights treaty setting out the civil, political, economic, social, health and cultural rights of children. The Convention generally defines a child as any human being under the age of eighteen, unless an earlier age of majority is recognized by a country's law.
