Opposition party leader to soon resign

09 January 2012 [18:27] - TODAY.AZ
The head of the Azerbaijani opposition "Musavat" party, Isa Gambar, will leave his post. A new Chairman will be elected at the congress, a member of the party, a delegate to the congress, the founder of the "New Musavat" newspaper Rauf Arifoglu told Trend today. "It is not worth discussing the issue of preserving Isa Gambar's leading post," he said. "This question has already been resolved. A new head will be appointed."

He said that only Arif Hajili put his candidacy forward."I think that there are many worthy people in the party," he said. "Members of the party and those willing to become the head will make the final decision. As a delegate to the congress, I will consider the candidates, including Arif Hajili, and make my choice. If Arif Hajili remains the only candidate, I will vote for him."

A decision was made to hold VIII congress of the party at Saturday's meeting of "Musavat" assembly on March 3-4. The regional organizations of the party have completed preparations for the congress. Last year, Isa Gambar said he would not nominate his candidacy for "Musavat" head.
