Who will replace Mevlut Cavusoglu?

A new PACE chairman will be elected during the January session of the organization. The PACE acting head Movlud Cavusoglu's term of office expires during this period, a source in the PACE told Trend today.

Frenchman Jean-Claude Mignon is expected to replace Cavusoglu. Mignon's candidacy was put forward by a political group of the European People's Party, represented in the PACE. Mignon is a member of the PACE committees on political affairs and monitoring, PACE deputy chairman and a member of the Bureau. According to the procedure, the chairman and his deputies will be elected during the session.

Cavusoglu was elected as the chairman of the organization in January 2010. According to the agreement reached between PACE political groups, a candidate for chairman of the organization is nominated by the rotation of political groups. At present, it is the European People's Party's turn to hold the post of PACE chairman. Mignon is its member. PACE chairman is elected for two years.
