Campaign launched in Turkey to recognize Khojaly genocide

05 January 2012 [11:28] - TODAY.AZ
A campaign has been launched in Turkey seeking the recognition by the country`s parliament of the Khojaly genocide and the passage of a bill making it crime to say there was the “Armenian genocide”.

Asif Gurban, a member of the Board of Directors of the World Congress of Azerbaijanis, the organizer of the campaign, said the world community should see the truths and recognize the genocide committed by Armenia in the Azerbaijani town of Khojaly.

“The Grand National Assembly of Turkey should make a first step in this direction. At the same time Turkey should adopt a law envisaging a legal punishment for those who say there was the “Armenian genocide”.

“We want a 18-month sentence or TL10,000 charge for those who say this. The money can be given to families of martyrs,” said Gurban. The campaign`s website is http://www.ermeni-soykirimi-var-diyen-cezalansin.org/.
