Newly-released NYPD 9/11 pics taken from helicopter - PHOTOS

ABC News obtained these stunning photos after it filed a Freedom of Information Act request last year with the National Institute of Standards and Technology, which investigated the collapse of the WTC towers.

The photos were shot from an NYPD helicopter, the only photographer allowed in the air space near the towers on Sept. 11, 2001. Credit for these photos goes to Greg Semendinger.
