Pedestrians could be forgiven for scratching their heads while repeatedly jumping up and down and making high-pitched whooping noises after town hall officials designed a bizarre road crossing sign.
One side of the road marker shows a human crossing the road while on the reverse there is a monkey striding out.
'We have heard of zebra crossings but never a monkey crossing. What are we supposed to do, swing over the road?' laughed one local.
Some believe it is based on an old Chinese proverb, to put a hat on a monkey.
'It means to put a fool in a powerful position - and we have enough of those running the town,' said one resident.
