The Spokane County Sherrif's Department believe that the ad was real, and are attempting to track down the father who had set an asking price of $5000 for the four-year-old tot.
The advert began: "Gavin is a great kid but I can no longer afford to take care of him".
It also states that the child "loves playing with balls but doesn't really like to play with cars and refuses to eat vegetables" and "he doesn't fuss very much but when he does he just screams for hours. I usually just put him in the closet until he stops and that usually works."
The man, who calls himself Rick, explains he has run out of child care options, meaning he has no choice but to sell his son.
Police obtained a search warrant to find the person who posted the ad back in February.
