Why are people sending naked pictures of themselves to Edward Snowden?

Edward Snowden fled to Russia after leaking a trove of classified documents demonstrating mass surveillance of British and American citizens.

He was branded a traitor by both UK and US security – but clearly not everyone agrees.

This week he took to Twitter to ask his female admirers to please desist with the unsolicited ‘Christmas presents’.

He reminded people who might be thinking of sending an NSFW image that the FBI was probably still tracking his correspondence, so their pictures might have a larger audience than they envisaged.

Equally as important, he reminded people he ‘has a girl’ – Lindsay Mills, a pole dancer he lived with before fleeing to Russia, pictured below. She has since moved to be with him in Moscow.

According to Motherboard, international fugitive Snowden, 32, coyly responded when asked about his tweet: ‘I can neither confirm nor deny it means exactly what you think it means.
