Rolls Royce SUV for the first time

03 February 2014 [16:10] - TODAY.AZ
If a Porsche sedan or the prospect of a Bentley SUV has taught us anything, it is that nothing is sacred when it comes to adhering to traditional vehicle classifications. From compact performance hatchbacks like the Mercedes-Benz GLA 45 AMG, to four-door coupe-wagon “things” like the BMW 328 GT, the walls of car classification are meant to be broken, and if you are not carving out your own niche-type vehicle, you’re not trying hard enough as an automaker.

That notion should take a little of the edge of shock from seeing these concepts of a Rolls-Royce crossover. The supreme luxury automaker embraces and touts tradition more than any other make on the planet. From the stoic body work to the classic grille that, for decades, has resembled a Roman colonnade, there was little reason for Rolls-Royce to change– other than keep up with current automotive technology.

Sedans, coupes and convertibles have been the only body styles offered from the Rolls-Royce factory. Occasionally, an aftermarket coach builder would take a Rolls and convert it into a wagon, or “Shooting brake.

”Perhaps that was the impetus for these concepts by designer Lutz Valdeig. They envision a future Rolls-Royce crossover that apparently adheres to traditional styling, but comes wrapped in a high-riding crossover body styleAccording to WorldCarFans, the designer believes a Rolls CUV would be more refined than a typical SUV, and would sit a little lower than more rugged vehicles.

Follow the money, and you’ll see that buyers are willing to shell out big bucks for premium SUVs and vehicles that brake the mold with traditional luxury. With this in mind, and the shooting brakes of the past, the idea of a Rolls-Royce crossover is not so far fetched. Let us know what you think in the comments below.
