The Eurovision Song Contest officials came to Azerbaijani capital to discuss preparations for the 2012 contest, which is to be held in Baku, in May.
The contest's executive supervisor, Jon Ola Sand, and events director, Sietse Bakker met the general director of Azerbaijan's Public Television, Ismayil Omarov, in Baku, ITV reported.
Prior to the visit, Bakker suggested that Baku should have a back-up, in case the planned new facility is not ready on time.
"This is my first visit to Azerbaijan. I was impressed with hospitality, cleanliness and infrastructure of the city. There is nothing unusual in my suggestion of a Plan B for the contest," Bakker pointed out.
"We discussed the venue of the contest in Baku with the ITV managers. If a new site is going to be built for the contest, it must be built on time, but a Plan B is needed as a back-up. If something goes wrong, there should always be an alternative.”
Baku's Eurovision organizers are remaining coy about the venue for the competition, promising to announce it later.
Commenting on the talks with ITV, Eurovision Executive Supervisor Jon Ola Sand said: "We discussed many issues related to the contest and are pleased with the preparation process. The meeting set priorities in preparing for the contest."
