Musical Workshop Labyrinth Festival to feature Azerbaijan`s mugam

Azerbaijan will be represented by instrumental mugam trio “Rast” at the Musical Workshop Labyrinth Festival due on August 8-13 in Heraklion, Greece.

At the festival, Azerbaijan mugam trio “Rast” comprising Rufat Hasanov (tar), Imamyar Hasanov (kamancha) and Malika Tabrizli (nagara), will perform Jakhargah, Bayati-Shiraz, Shushter, Shur mugams and national dance melodies.

The festival will bring together musicians from the United States, UK, Brazil, Pakistan, Bulgaria, Czech Republic and other countries. A large number of top class musicians from a wide variety of the world`s musical traditions will converge to teach repertoire, technique, improvisation and composition.

This year`s program of the festival includes also seminars as well as supporting courses. There are many new subjects amongst this year`s seminars including the Mugam tradition of Azerbaijan, Turkish Makam tradition, Flamenco guitar etc.

Also the artistic director of the Musical Workshop Labyrinth Ross Daly will teach a seminar focusing on composition within modal musical systems.
