Symposium "Azerbaijan mugam and music of the Middle East" wraps up

A scientific symposium on theme Azerbaijan mugam and music of the Middle East as part of the 2nd International Mugam Festival wrapped up at the Union of Composers of Azerbaijan.

The proceedings chaired by Prof. Dr. Jurgen Elsner (Germany) and Ass. Prof. Dr. Suraya Agayeva featured presentation by Ass. Prof. Dr. Robert Simms (Canada) on the theme "Foreground structures and processes in the Avaz of Mohammad Reza Shajarian"; presentation by Prof. Dr. Mondher Ayari (Tunis) and Dr. Oliver Lrtillot (Finland) on theme "Analysis of performances and computational modeling of maqam improvisations", etc.

The participants have adopted a Concluding Declaration which will reportedly be included in UNESCO documentation.
