Gissele ballet to be staged in Baku

"Giselle" ballet of Adolf Adan will be staged the Azerbaijan State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater on June 16.

The leading soloists of the Russian State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater, laureates of international contests of ballet artists Maria Vinogradova (Giselle) and David Motta Soares (Count Albert) will play the main roles in the ballet, Trend Life reported.

Besides, soloists of the theater Ayan Eyvazova (Mirta) and Timur Oduchev (Hans) will also take part in the ballet. Honored artist of Azerbaijan, Eyyub Guliyev will lead the performance.

The romantic ballet in two acts was first performed in 1841.

"Giselle" ballet is about a peasant girl named Giselle, who dies of a broken heart after discovering her lover is betrothed to another. The Wilis, a group of supernatural women who dance men to death, summon Giselle from her grave. They target her lover for death, but Giselle's great love frees him from their grasp.

The performance was an unqualified triumph. Giselle became hugely popular and was staged at in Europe and the U.S.
