Jahangir Novruzov awarded in Turkey

Azerbaijan's prominent theater and film actor, director, and honored art worker Jahangir Novruzov has won the "XVII Direkleraras? Seyirci Ödülleri" theater prize in Turkey.

The actor was awarded for directing "Ah, bu evlilik..." play, consisting of A.P. Chekhov's small dramatic works, staged at the Adana Metropolitan Municipality Theater. The prize was presented to  Novruzov at a ceremony in Adana, Trend Life reported.

The son of deceased folk artist Nasiba Zeynalova was born on July 31, 1954 in Baku.

He entered the Institute of Arts named after M.A. Aliyeva. He studied in the class of People's Artist of the USSR Mekhdi Mammadov. His thesis was defended on the stage of the Theater of Musical Comedy. He staged the operetta "My Mother-in-law" by Georgy Khugayev. Further, he began to work in this theater.

In 1985, Novruzov was appointed the chief director of the Sheki State Drama Theater. During the years of work in theater, he went on tour to Kazan, Tashkent, Samarkand, Moscow, and Prague.

Novruzov's play "Muscovy Jordan and the Dervish Mastalishah", based on the play by Mirza Fatali Akhundov was awarded the first prize.

In 1990, he was appointed chief director of the Russian branch of the Young Spectator Theater.

His play "To be or not to be", based on Shakespeare's Hamlet, was awarded to the first place at the festival organized by Azerbaijan Union of Theater Workers.

In 2011, by decree of the President Ilham Aliyev, Jahangir Novruzov was awarded the title of Honored Artist of Azerbaijan for achievements in the field of art and merit in the development of the Azerbaijani diaspora.

Notably, he was awarded the "Tiyatro için Emek Ödülü" in the past theater season.

Novruzov, who has been living in Turkey since 1995, works at the State Conservatory Theater Department at Cukurova University in Adana for 20 years. He is also deputy chairman of Azerbaijan Association of Culture and Solidarity in Adana.
