The concert of Turkish ensemble "?imdi"(Now) took place at the Palace of Shaki Khans on June 28, Day.az reported.

Fascinating show was organized in the framework of the 7th International Silk Way Music Festival in Azerbaijan’s Sheki region, the Cultural Capital of the Turkic World 2016. The festival, which is being supported by the Culture and Tourism Ministry, will run until July 4.

The event was attended by representatives of Executive Power of the Sheki City, Azerbaijan Union of Composers and TURKSOY, as well as music lovers.

"?imdi" is a new project in the footsteps of the Sufi tradition of Anatolia. "?imdi "is founded by singer and composer Bora Uymaz, who is one of the most prolific figures of this tradition in Turkey. The ensemble is comprised of a Bora Uymaz (vocals), Ali Polattemir (ney), Mehmet Yalg?n (kemenche), Volkan Ergen (percussion), Hasan Kirish (tanbur) and Shirin Pancaroglu (harp).

The audience was delighted by the performance of Turkish musicians. The ensemble was awarded with the symbol of the festival.

The concerts of "?imdi", Anatolian dance group (Turkey), ensemble Vas-Liqa (Japan) and Sahil (Iran) will run until June 30.

Further, the publications "Musical folklore Sheki" and "Sheki Performing arts " will be presented at Sheki Music College on June 30. The publications which cover musical traditions of the region have been written by musicologist Saadat Texmirazkizi.

The meeting with artistic director and chief conductor of Azerbaijan State Orchestra of Folk Instruments, Agaverdi Pashayev will be held on July 1. The event is dedicated to 80th anniversary the folk orchestra.

The closing ceremony will feature the performance of Azerbaijan State Orchestra of Folk Instruments and the State Song and Dance Ensemble under the direction of conductor.

Holding such a grand music festival, which has become a wonderful tradition, in Sheki, is not by mere chance. For centuries this beautiful city, which is located along the route of the ancient Silk Road, was an important center of art and commerce.

Today Sheki is a unique place that has preserved the culture of urban planning inherent to medieval towns.

Rare historical and architectural monuments of the city - caravanserais, mosques, minarets, walls, bridges, etc. - indicate the ancient architectural style of Sheki.
