Symposium on Bakuvi and Khalvati movement took place in Baku

An international symposium on "Cultural Bridges from Caucasus to Anatolia: Seyid Yahya Bakuvi and Khalvati Movement" was held at the International Mugham Center in Baku on November 25.

Numerous guests, scientists, and religious figures from Turkey, Central Asia and Balkan countries attended the symposium.

The event was organized by the State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations of Azerbaijan Republic (SCWRO), Islamic Conference Youth Forum for Dialogue and Cooperation (ICYF-DC), Caucasus Universities Association, and National Tolerance Center.

The event started with screening the film "Eternal Light Monument: Juma Mosque".

Making a speech at the event, Chairman of State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations Elshad Isgandarov recalled the great leader Heydar Aliyev's saying about "one nation, two states", and stressed the creation of a great historical chance for approaching of two fraternal countries -Turkey and Azerbaijan today.

It was noted that the international symposium "Seyid Yahya Bakuvi: Expression of Tolerance" was held at the initiative of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris last month.

"The heritage of Bakuvi and his glorified Khalvati movement did not lost its relevance in the promotion of inter-religious tolerance, prevention of interfaith conflicts, or the struggle against religious radicalism," he said.

Chairman of Caucasus Muslims Office Sheikhulislam Haji Allahshukur Pashazade spoke about the importance of introducing historical figures, and highly praised the work done by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, as well as the SCWRO's recent projects in this regard.

Recalling the symposium dedicated to Bakuvi a few days ago in Eskisheher, Deputy Chairman of the Turkish Religious Affairs Hasan Yilmaz said that it is very logical to end the series of events in the great thinker`s homeland, Baku.

The Deputy Chairman Highly appreciated the declaration of year 2013 as "Bakuvi year" by the UNESCO at the initiative of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.

Deputy Minister of Education Jeyhun Bayramov said despite the fact that Bakuvi has written his works in different languages??, his main work was written in his native language, which contributed to Azerbaijan`s philosophy of science.

He further noted that it is very important to learn Bakuvi's heritage in the country during the ongoing educational reforms.

MP Ganira Pashayeva, member of the National Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Philology, Professor Rafael Huseynov, Turkish Deputy Minister of Education Orhan Erdem and others also spoke about the importance of Bakuvi's heritage, and highly appreciated the work carried out for the promotion of his legacy.

The event continued with a concert program.
