Azerbaijani mugham sounds at PORTA 2013 festival in Latvia

The Latvian-Azerbaijani musical project called “White Sounds. Latvia-Azerbaijan” in which traditional Latvian folk-songs meshed with Azerbaijani mugham was performed at the 13th

“Porta” world music festival in Riga, which is the longest running, widest ranging professional festival in Latvia.

Young Azerbaijani mugham singer Leyla Aliyeva devoted her performance to the National Flag Day of Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijani ambassador to Latvia Elman Zeynalov, as well as employees of the embassy, Latvian public figures and representatives of the Azerbaijani diaspora attended the event.

This year`s festival offered a wide-ranging and varied program of artists from around the world, with concerts taking place in various venues throughout Riga.

The festival featured classical Indian music combined with more modern musical styles like jazz, funk and ethno, Balkan rhythms, as well as local post-folklore musicians.

The festival also showed screen documentaries about various cultures, traditions and music from around the world.
