
An event entitled “Azerbaijan meets Los Angeles” was held at Skirball Cultural Center of Los Angeles on Thursday.
The event was organized by Azerbaijan`s Consulate General in Los Angeles and Azerbaijan`s State Customs Committee.
The evening was attended by Los Angeles city and county officials, members of California State Assembly, professors from different universities, businessmen, Consul Generals of various countries, journalists, Hollywood film composers, as well as members of Azerbaijani and Jewish communities.
The event started with a concert of outstanding Azerbaijani Music Trio (kamancha, tar, naghara) and American Jazz Quartet, who performed a fusion of Azerbaijani traditional music with American Jazz.
The concert was followed by Azerbaijani art exhibition “Azerbaijan customs stand on guard of cultural values” which featured unique and ancient art exhibits confiscated from smugglers by Azerbaijan customs officials.
Addressing the evening, Consul General of Azerbaijan in Los Angeles Nasimi Aghayev said the event was of great significance in terms of strengthening friendship between Azerbaijani and American nations.
Chairman of the State Customs Committee Aydin Aliyev highlighted the activities of the Committee. He said Customs service of Azerbaijan attached huge significance to protecting cultural heritage and values. Aliyev described pieces featured in the exhibitions as “important for mankind”.
The Committee Chairman said transportation of unique cultural values via uncontrolled regions like Azerbaijan`s Nagorno-Karabakh, occupied by Armenia, posed a great threat to cultural heritage of humanity.
State Department`s Los Angeles Regional Office Director Wesley Weller and head of Los Angeles County Office of Protocol Lourdes Saab praised the mission of the event.
The evening ended with a reception, during which the guests tasted Azerbaijani food and wine.
