
Today, a meeting was held between Caspian-European Integration Business Club (CEIBC) members and US Ambassador to Azerbaijan Matthew Bryza, in Baku
The ambassador noted that, Azerbaijan’s economy tripled, during past 7 years. Poverty level decreased from 49% to 9%: “80-85% of GDP comes from private sector”.
He says according to World Economic Forum, Azerbaijan ranked 56th in the world for competitiveness, first in the Post-Soviet countries.
Bryza said that, northern and southern countries were against the Azerbaijan’s links with US and Europe. According to him, Azerbaijan has a suitable situation for investments. He also noted that, Azerbaijan had to try to develop the non-oil sector: “Several spheres of economy – ICT, agriculture, develop. We’ve cooperation in ICT sphere, but it must be developed. If the TAE project is implemented, flow of US companies to Azerbaijan will increase. We’ve cooperation in transport sphere too. Azerbaijan purchases Boeing aircrafts from US”.
According to Bryza, Azerbaijan is still as a far exotic country for Americans: “That’s why the efforts must be developed for promote Azerbaijan better in US”.
