SOCAR opens Eco-park in Baku

19 September 2011 [13:16] - TODAY.AZ
The State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) opened an Eco-park in the Khazar district of Baku on Monday.

SOCAR President Rovnag Abdullayev attended the opening ceremony. The Eco-park opening was timed to coincide with the Day of Oil worker, which is traditionally celebrated in Azerbaijan on Sept.20.

At least 50 percent of the eco-park power supply is provided by alternative energy sources. Of particular note, the park has four wind turbines with a capacity of 10 kilowatt-hours each for power generation, as well as solar panels with a total capacity of 20 kilowatt-hours.

The total amount of power that will be generated through the alternative energy sources is 60 kilowatt-hours.

An environmental center is also operating in the park. It aims to carry out environmental education of the staff of SOCAR enterprises as well as other state agencies including the Education Ministry.

The Eco-park was established on a site of 9.3 hectares. SOCAR also intends to grow plants here for its business units.
