New solar cells plant to start functioning in Azerbaijan's Sumgayit

Reportedly, a new solar cells developing plant will be completed in Azerbaijan's Sumgayit city till the end of 2011.

Jamil Melikov, deputy head of the State Agency for Alternative and Renewable Energy confirmed this fact on Monday. According to him, the contruction and installation of necessary equipment is being continued.

Along with the production of solar panels plant will produce energy efficient LED lamps. Construction of the plant is being financed by the private sector, Azgüntex company is the one building it, and its being supported by the Agency on alternative energy sources.

The equipment installed at the factory is produced in Germany, and the prices for it are mostly equal to the costs of products offered by Chinese producers.

Annual production capacity will exceed 100 thousand units of photovoltaic modules with a total capacity of 25 MW, as well as about a million units of various energy-saving lamps.
