Azerbaijan increases share of alternative energy sources in total energy production

The Azerbaijani Industry and Energy Ministry plan to increase alternative and renewable energy shares to 10 percent in ten years in total generation capacity, the Head of the Ministry’s department for investments and reconstruction of industrial facilities Ramiz Rzayev told journalists on Thursday.

"Production volumes of alternative energy sources will increase to 600-700 megawatts," Rzayev said.

He said the ministry and the State Agency for Alternative and Renewable Energy are working to prepare a plan of activities in the field of alternative and renewable energy sources.

"This program will cover the cost of activities planned for the short-, medium-, and long-term until 2030," he said.

Rzayev said work on the program will be completed in the first quarter of 2011.
