The capacity of Azerbaijan's power grids will be brought to 9,000 megawatts by 2015, while 10 percent of this figure should account for alternative and renewable energy, Director of the Azerbaijani Scientific-Researc Energy Institute Nurali Yusifov said.
The volume of the country's power grid is projected at 6,000 megawatts, but now it is already 6,500 megawatts. Over the past five years, the power grid has increased by 2,700 megawatts, Yusifov said.
The country builds several new power plants, particularly Cenub power plant and small hydropower stations, Yusifov said.
He said the work on the study of alternative and renewable sources of energy is underway. The institute has prepared an inventory of small hydropower and wind energy inventory.
Construction of several small hydroelectric plants and wind farms will be launched in the coming days.
