Size of unemployment benefits reduced in Azerbaijan

Although the process of reducing unemployment through female population resumed in February, a new trend of reduction in the size of unemployment benefits has emerged.

In February, the size of unemployment benefits reduced by 2.7 percent.

Given the month’s inflation of 1.1 percent, the real decline of the benefits reached 3.8 percent.

By 1 March 2010 five officially registered unemployed persons claimed for one vacancy in Azerbaijan.

The State Statistics Committee (SSC) reports that as of 1st March 2010 the country registered 40,954 unemployed persons (41,000 ones a month earlier and 41,100 by early 2010) with women making up 43.8 of them (44 percent a month earlier).

Thus, number of official unemployed persons this February reduced by 46 compared to 100 in January 2010 and 505 in December 2009.

Average size of unemployment benefit totaled AZN 169.1 by 1st March 2010 against AZN 173.8 by 1st February and AZN 176.5 following 2009.

As a result, in 2010, it decreased already by 4.2 percent including 2.7 percent in February.
