Assessment of process of EITI application to be launched in Azerbaijan

The work group of representatives of Azerbaijani governmental commission on Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative, Coalition of nongovernmental organizations on EITI and oil producing companies, operating in the country, was held on November 18, said sources from the state oil fund of Azerbaijan.

As is reported, the session was held for the selection of a company on the assessment of the EITI application process in Azerbaijan.

Notably, a tender was held among 7 international companies including Coffey Int. Dev. Ltd., ECON, The IDL Group, Goldwyn Int Strategies, Hart Nurse Limited, Oxford Policy Management and PricewaterhouseCoopers and Accountability in this connection. The companies, invited for participation in the tender, including Coffey International Development, Goldwyn International, Hart Group and ECON presented their proposals on the process of assessment.Members of the work group, studying proposals, have been chosen for conduction of the process of assessment of Coffey International Development company.

It should be noted that the status of a candidate-country presented to 15 states, including Azerbaijan, at the third session of the EITI international board in Oslo (Norway) on September 27 of 2007. Under the decision of the board, for complete accession to EITI, the countries need to conduct special assessment.

These countries were given two years for assessment and adoption of a decision about whether they can be considered as countries, completely joining EITI.
