EU to continue supporting Azerbaijan's policy in the sphere of energy supplies diversification

"The recent events in Georgia showed that it is now extremely important to settle the issues of energy supplies diversification", says the letter of EU chairman and French President Nicolas Sarkozy, addressed to the participants of the first International Conference "Oil and gas potential of Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan: energy, economy, ecology. Strategy of Cooperation".

The letter was read by Loran Muchelle, chief of department on international energy issues of the European commission.

The document says that Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan are EU's strategic partners in the energy sector. "The European Union recognizes and highly assesses the difficult and brave decision, taken by Azerbaijan in the issue of promoting energy security.

We will continue supporting stability and progress in the said region and will work for diversification of energy supplies", says the letter.
