BP cuts gas feeding into South Caucasus pipeline

13 August 2008 [13:27] - TODAY.AZ
The South Caucasus Pipeline, or SCP, can continue to flow gas into Turkey for seven days, despite the fact that gas is no longer entering the Azeri end of the pipeline, a spokeswoman for operator BP PLC (BP) said Wednesday.
BP is no longer feeding gas into the pipeline in Azerbaijan as a precaution because it passes close to areas in Georgia that Russia bombed Tuesday, although a ceasefire between the two countries is now in place. Oil flow through the Baku-Supsa pipeline also remains suspended, the spokeswoman said.

Many gas pipelines are able to use their high internal pressure to continue flowing even if gas is no longer supplied into one end.
