Net of express railroads to be launched in Azerbaijan by 2020

Korean specialists presented renewed proposals on the reconstruction of a railroad section from Baku to the Georgian border, said deputy transport Minister of Azerbaijan Musa Panakhov.
"This project may become a part of the state program of railroad development, whose implementation will start in 2009", said Panakhov. The deputy Minister noted that the said issue was actively discussed at the seminar on railway technologies, organized by the Transport Ministry of Azerbaijan and Korean administration of the railway net, held in Baku.

As is reported, the last variant of the reconstruction of Baku-Beyuk Kesik railroad, proposed by the Korean side, is estimated at $2.3 bln and is intended for 3 stages.

Ganja-Boyuk-Kesik distance and then Baku-Hajiqabul and Hajiqabul-Ganja will be reconstructed. Speed of passenger trainings will rise up to 150 km/h and cargo to 120 km/h. The construction works will take 5 years.

It should be noted that Azerbaijan plans construction of express railroad in the said direction for 2015-2020, depending on the degree of transportations development by this route and the need to accelerate the speed, which should near 160-200 km/h.

A work group for consideration of the project of express railroad from Baku to Georgia, extending to 503 km, was created with participation of the Transport Ministry, Azerbaijan's State railroad and Korean consultants.
