The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) will consider, in the first half of 2008, giving a license to Azerbaijan for launching its own satellite, the country`s ministry of communication and information announced.
According to Gurban Abdullayev, an official at the ministry, Azerbaijan officially appealed to ITU last year.
He said only 25 or 30 countries throughout the world have their own satellites.
If Azerbaijan manages to put its satellite into the orbit covering Europe, it will be able to become a transit country for broadcasting European and Asian stations.
