"There is potential now to apply international standards in winegrowing," Chairman of Azerbaijan State Agency for Standardization, Metrology and Patents, Ramiz Hasanov told a press conference today.

He said it is possible to apply international standards in juices and fish and European standards in hazels and nuts in Azerbaijan.

He added that the agency examines tests and registers all imports inflow to the country. He said every enterprise has to possess high-tech equipment to define the standards.

He added that Azerigas, Azersu and Azerenergy companies have the gas, water and electricity meters tested in the laboratories of the agency, APA reports.

Ramiz Hasanov admitted that they have control over the imports and production while there is no mechanism to define the quality of raw materials.

"We don't have the power to examine raw materials at the market. Some ministries and bodies control this segment of the market. Azerbaijan, a country which is on the ay to the World Trade Organization, should strengthen control over production and exports," he added.
