Ali Abbasov attends meeting of Global Alliance for ICT and Development

Azerbaijan will transfer $100,000 to the account of the UN Global Alliance for Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and Development (GAID), Ali Abbasov, Azerbaijani Information and Communication Technologies Minister stated at the meeting of the Strategic Council of the organization.

Making speech on the theme "Azerbaijan business prospects" at the meeting of the Intel Company in the city of Mountain View, California, Ali Abbasov said that the level of internetization in the West is 80%, while it is 20% in the East, APA reports.

"This causes problems for information flow. Azerbaijan can eliminate disbalance with the help of artificial satellite that will soon be launched," he said.

The Minister noted that the parliament approved the decision on electronic commerce and signature, work on establishing regional information zones continues and all schools will be supplied with Internet by 2008.

He noted that Azerbaijan is ready to establish central office of Global Alliance for ICT Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and Development in the Eastern, Central European and CIS countries.

Global Alliance for Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and Development, one of the objectives of which is to promote information and communisation technologies, was established by the UN General Secretariat in March 2006.
