20 February 2007 [22:39] - TODAY.AZ
Withdrawal of old currency notes from the circulation has continued to progress and only a little amount of bills remained, Elman Rustamov, Chairman of the Management Board of the National Bank of Azerbaijan said during a meeting with Caspian Integration Business Club members.

He said proposals on old-currency disintegration and shredding process has been submitted to the Government.

The draft document will be introduced to the president for approval and currency shredding devices and granulators are being installed in the National Bank. The notes to be handed over by commercial banks will be counted and a special commission will have control over granulation process. The shreds of destroyed banknotes will not be processed as in other countries, but will be pressed in the form of bricks, he noted.

Elman Rustamov added that the new bills are high-quality and meet international standards.

Oxidation of kopecks is related to copper. We will probably make some changes in future because of humidity in the climate, he underscored, APA reports.
